workshop/event space
(This is passing on an idea that was shared with me from one of the WRAP faculty -- we were discussing our ideal spaces for holding workshops/events).
The library should have a central, flexible medium-sized space for events, talks, workshops... with reconfigurable and moveable tables for hands-on work, a projector screen and comfortable chairs for talks, and amenities like a counter meant for food and plenty of outlets. Ideally with windows and a connection of some sort to the main library (but also accessible after-hours). There is an ongoing need for such a space, not just for library events but also for potential partnerships, like hosting student groups, writing workshops, and dissertation bootcamp/hackathon-style events.
Note: maybe this could be supported by a grant for libraries as a community anchor?...
